Apple recommended settings for Apple WiFi
Routers and Access Points
1. If you're having problems
streaming audio from your iPhone 4S to your speaker
Users of the Apple iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.01 may
from time to time experience connectivity problems, as well as both
short and prolonged AirPlay audio drop-outs. This issue is
widespread and occurring on all AirPlay-enabled speakers from a
range of vendors including Libratone.
The issue has been solved in iOS 5.1 which became available from
Apple on March 7th 2012. Users of the iPhone 4S are therefore
strongly encouraged to install the iOS 5.1 update on their devices
to remedy this specific AirPlay issue.
2. If your Libratone AirPlay
speaker keeps pulsing red instead of pulsing slow
white
The speaker is not connected to a wireless network. This problem
may have four causes:
1. The speaker is rebooting.
After Setup step 5: "Connect your speaker to your home
network" the speaker needs to reboot. This process requires a
little patience and it may take up to 5-6 minutes depending on
your WiFi connection (and not the normal 10-15 seconds as the setup
guide claims).
2. Wrong wireless network information and/or a failure in the
connection between the speaker and the home network.
Press 4 times at the Libratone logo button, and your speaker will
enter setup mode (signalled by a red fast pulsing button).
Enter Airplay Setup by typing 192.168.1.1 in your browser's
address field and ensure that Speaker Name, Wireless Network
Name and Wireless Network Password are correct. From there, follow
the Setup Guide from step 5 (and remember to have a
little patience while rebooting).
3. The speaker can't locate the wireless network.
- If you have several WiFi networks in your home, try to
turn off the ones not used by the speaker.
- Try to relocate either your speaker or your router to
strengthen the network signal. Your speaker and your router needs
to be in range of each other and with strong signal
strength between them.
- Try to change the "channel" upon which your router operates
(consult your router's manual to learn more about this
feature). Having many networking devices operating on the same
channel can seriously degrade network performance and thus cause
audio dropouts on your AirPlay connection. If your router
supports the use of channel 13 we recommend this
setting as not many other devices use this channel by default.
4. You are using special characters in your network
configuration.
If you use speciel characters such as
#, &, % or any national
characters in either your Speaker Name, Wireless Network Name
or Wireless Network Password, please
replace these characters with alphanumeric
characters only.
3 . If you can't see your speaker
in the AirPlay menu in iTunes or on your iOS device
If your Libratone AirPlay speaker does not appear in the
AirPlay menu, follow these steps to resolve the issue:
1. Verify that all your AirPlay-enabled devices are logged on to
the same home Wi-Fi network (check the home network names
on all your devices to confirm).
2. Verify that your iOS device or computer has WiFi turned on and
is associated with the same home WiFi network as your Libratone
speaker.
3. Check Internet or network connectivity on all affected devices.
Temporarily disable firewalls (both network and local) and security
software. Security software and firewalls may block ports that
AirPlay uses to stream content. You can often resolve issues with
security software by updating, correctly configuring, or
uninstalling security software.
4. Ensure that no other devices are trying to stream AirPlay
to your Libratone speaker at the same time. Only one
device may access the speaker at a time.
5. Turn off Bluetooth on your iDevice by tapping Settings >
General > Bluetooth.
6. If attempting to use AirPlay from a third-party app or a
website from your Safari app on your iDevice, confirm that the app
or website is AirPlay compatible (refer to the developers of the
app or website for additional information).
4. If you're using WEP as the
security mechanism on your router
The WEP security standard is an aging security standard and
thus NOT compatible with the AirPlay protocol, and you
could experience AirPlay connection problems if you use WEP
security on your router. Please change the security setting to
WPA/WPA2 for full AirPlay compatibility (and as an added
bonus WPA/WPA2 enables much stronger security on your router).
For instructions on changing the security type on your
router, please refer to your routers documentation.
5. If you're experiencing problems
setting up to WPA/WPA2 security on your router
Check if any special characters such as #,
&, % or any national characters are part of
your WPA/WPA2 Network Password.
If this is the case, then change your password to one that doesn't
include these characters and you will be good. The same applies to
your Speaker Name and Wireless Network Name (SSID) which
must also contain alphanumeric characters only.
For instructions on how to change the configuration of your
router, please refer to your routers documentation.
6. If your WiFi Network Name
(SSID) is not available in the list of networks in the AirPlay
setup page
This problem may have 3 causes:
1. Your speaker is not within reach of your router's wireless
signal and thus cannot connect to it. Ensure that your router
and your speaker are within range of each other.
2. Your router does not support the Wireless B/G standard or it
has been disabled in the network configuration of your router.
Ensure that your router supports the Wireless B/G standard and that
this option is enabled in the configuration of your
router.
3. Your router is configured to hide its Network Name
(SSID) and thus your network will not be shown in the
list of available networks in the setup page. The workaround
is to change the network settings of your router to temporarily
broadcast the SSID of your network while setting up your speaker.
Once your router has SSID broadcast enabled the normal
AirPlay setup process can be completed. Upon completion of
your speaker setup (signalled by your speaker pulsing slow
white) you can change the router configuration back to a hidden
SSID.
7. If you can't connect to the
AirPlay setup page when entering "192.168.1.1" in your
browser
This problem may have 2 causes:
1. You are not connected to the setup network of your
Libratone speaker (named "Libratone xxxxxx"). Please see step 3 in
your Setup Guide for how to do this. You need to be connected to
the speaker's internal network to connect to the AirPlay setup
page.
2. If you use an iDevice to set up your speaker it is
strongly recommended that you close (not just
minimize) Safari and ALL other applications in the taskbar on your
iDevice BEFORE starting the setup process. Having too many
applications running at the same time can interrrupt setup, as can
the Safari browser if it's not closed and restarted before the
setup process.
8. If you lose audio connection
(dropouts) between your speaker and your audio device
Sometimes you may lose the audio connection between
your speaker and your audio device. This may be caused by several
reasons including:
- Your router, speaker and audio device are no longer within
solid range of each other.
- Heavy data traffic (such as large downloads, streaming
movies etc.) is causing data congestion on your network
router.
- The streaming service you're listening to (eg. Pandora, Spotify,
Last.fm etc.) is experiencing heavy usage, thus dropping audio
connection periodically.
Your audio application may also occasionally lose AirPlay
connection to your speaker. To fix this you normally only need to
either restart your iTunes/iPod player (close and restart the
player, do not just minimize it) OR select and de-select your
AirPlay speaker in the AirPlay menu on your device. In many aspects
the AirPlay technology is still in its infancy (especially on iOS) and thus these things do happen
once in a while, but are normally very easy to correct.
Please also note that WiFi connections
may suffer from minor audio dropouts from time to time due to other
devices in your home influencing your WiFi network
traffic.
9. If you have more than one DHCP
server on your wireless network
There should be only one DHCP server on your network. This DHCP
server may be built in to your DSL or cable modem, a standalone
router, or integrated with your WiFi router. In any case, only one
device should act as a DHCP server on your network. If more than
one device has it enabled, you will likely see address conflicts
and will have issues accessing the Internet or other resources on
your network, such as your Libratone AirPlay speaker.
10. If you want to perform
a Factory Reset of your speaker
Initiate a Factory Reset by following these steps:
1. Start by turning AC power off at the mains switch of your
speaker.
2. Press the logo button firmly while powering up the speaker
again.
3. Maintain button pressure while the speaker powers up and the
logo button starts to pulse yellow.
4. When the logo button turns solid yellow release
the button.
5. Your speaker is now reset to factory settings. Please wait for
it to finish booting and for the logo button to pulse fast
red.
You can now start the setup process with a device of your choosing
(PC, Mac, iDevice or WPS). If you use an iDevice to setup your
AirPlay connection remember to close (not just minimize) Safari and
all other applications in the taskbar on your iDevice before
starting the setup process again.
Also, please remember to be VERY careful with every step of the
setup procedure as AirPlay is quite sensitive to user errors and
typos during setup.
11. If you use an Apple AirPort
Express, AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule as your WiFi network
router
On January 30th, 2012 Apple released their latest version
7.6.1 firmware for users of the Apple AirPort Express, Apple
AirPort Extreme and Apple Time Capsule WiFi network routers.
It fixes an issue with wireless performance and provides support
for remote access to an AirPort disk or a Time Capsule hard drive
with an iCloud account. For detailed information please visit this
Apple support page.
Libratone generally recommends the use of the latest firmware
for your network router.
